ANOTHER waste site has been given the go-ahead for Northwich – but this time it will be solely for recycling.

Hartford-based Broadthorn Construction Ltd is to build a non-hazardous household, commercial and industrial waste recycling centre on land off Griffiths Road in Lostock.

Waste will be brought in by fixed body vehicles, containers or skips to be separated by hand from a picking line or by a manual feed processing plant.

The processed materials will then be stored in bays or containers within the 12.48 metre-high building to await removal from the site. It is expected that between eight and 10 jobs will be created.

Councillors at Cheshire West and Chester were split in their decision at a meeting of the planning committee last Thursday, and it was left to chairman Clr Myles Hogg to make the casting vote.

Clr Malcom Byram, who represents Lostock, said he was unhappy with the outcome, adding: “So that’s yet another thing on Griffiths Road then. Four councillors spoke against including myself, George Miller, Mark Stocks and Ralph Oultram, but there were no members of the public there, not a soul. Nor was there anyone from any parish councils.

“There was no one to speak against it and I’m pretty certain that if there had been it could have easily gone the other way.”

Access to the site is expected to be via Griffiths Road and King Street Waste with 50 trips in and 50 out predicted Monday to Friday and a total of 70 on a Saturday.

The plant will operate Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 6pm; Saturdays 7.30am to 1pm and be closed on Sundays and bank holidays.

As a condition, no food waste is allowed on site in a bid to keep vermin away, and no vegetation clearance can be carried out between March 1 and August 31 to protect breeding birds.
