ANIMAL experts from Reaseheath College in Nantwich, are reminding pet owners to take extra care during Bonfire Night celebrations.

The college, which has over 1,000 animals in its animal centre, over 50 horses in its equine unit and a working farm with a dairy herd, pig unit and flock of sheep, is taking precautions to ensure its animals are not frightened by fireworks.

Head of animal management Richard Champion warned: “Animals can be panicked by loud noises and many are naturally afraid of fire.

"It’s important that dogs and cats are kept indoors in a quiet room and outdoor pets like rabbits can benefit from having a blanket put over their hutch if you’re having a bonfire in the garden.

“And don’t forget to check your bonfire for hedgehogs before you light it.

"It’s now that hedgehogs will be looking for somewhere to hibernate and they often choose piles of vegetation.”
