THE number of Cheshire’s young people given the opportunity to get a position in education or employment has met the Government’s targets.

Connexions Cheshire and Warrington Ltd announced the unemployment rate among 16 and 17 year olds is one of the lowest in the north west, surpassing targets in some cases.

The Government’s September Guarantee aims for 98 per cent of Year 11 pupils and 90 per cent for 17 year olds offered an appropriate position in learning in a local authority’s area.

Cheshire West and Chester Council reported 98.4 per cent for Year 11 students and 92 per cent for 17 year olds.

Norma Guest, director of operations for Connexions Cheshire and Warrington, said: “It is important that young people have the opportunity to continue in education. We ensure they are aware of all the options open to them.”
