MORE than 250 people packed-out a police charity boxing night at Winsford Lifestyle Centre.
The sell-out night on Friday, October 16 kicked off with 12 bouts of boxing in the schoolboy, senior and junior categories. Winsford Boxing Club put in four fighters all of whom won their respective bouts.
Guests then enjoyed a four-course meal followed by a public auction. Former Winsford mayor and town Clr Des Worthington painted a picture of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson in the ring, which helped the night raise an impressive total of £8,000 for St Luke’s Hospice and the Joshua Tree.
Clr Worthington said: “It was a great night, everyone had a brilliant time and it was good to see something like this bringing the town together.”
Insp Dave Snasdell of Winsford Neighbourhood policing unit said: “I would like to thank all that supported the event with sponsorship and raffle prizes but most of all the public who attended and supported all the boxers from the North West area in a sporting manner.
“Special thanks go to Tommy Blackmore and his trainers at the boxing club who put on the excellent bouts, Const Peter Jones and Alan Such who have supported me throughout the year organizing the event.
“This will be an annual event and we will change the main beneficiary’s each year. Watch out for the date as the tables will be selling fast for next year.”
