MORE than a hundred people celebrated the unveiling of the Perdita painting by the Mayor of Nantwich Edith Williams the town's museum last week.
The unveiling formed a part of a cheese and wine evening organised as a fundraising event to help the museum pay for the purchase of the painting – the only known depiction of Nantwich Races.
Although the museum was successful in securing funding from various funds and from Nantwich Town Council, it also had to contribute nearly £2,000 from its own limited budget. Museum curator Anne Wheeler said: “The evening was a tremendous success with a fantastic turnout and a great show of support.
"The ladies of the Inner Wheel must be thanked for laying on a delicious feast of cheese and wine which was much enjoyed by all who attended.
"A grand total of £870 was raised which we are all delighted with."
