LOCAL health chiefs are urging NHS staff and South Cheshire residents to have their flu jab.
Leighton Hospital chief executive Phil Morley this week rolled up his sleeve to receive his annual flu vaccination, to protect himself against the winter flu virus.
He said: “As a responsible member of staff, I feel it is very important to take this opportunity to not only protect myself against the flu virus by having the vaccination, but also to protect my colleagues and staff, many of whom work directly with patients.
“I am urging all my staff at Leighton Hospital to ensure they receive their free flu jab, which will help protect them against this year’s strain of seasonal flu.
“Those people who have had ‘the flu’ know how unpleasant its symptoms can be.
"These symptoms can be even more unpleasant for vulnerable patients who can be more seriously affected by the virus.”
Each year a high number of patients are admitted to Leighton as a result of flu-related illnesses.
Mr Morley added: “Each year’s strain of flu is different and patients with chronic illnesses such as asthma or diabetes, or 65 years or older, are particularly at risk.
“For this reason, I hope that all those people who are offered a flu vaccination take the time to make an appointment with their local GP to ensure they receive this year’s flu jab.”
