CREWE schools have been recognised for helping children with dyslexia flourish in the classroom.
Monks Coppenhall Nursery and Primary School on Remer Street and the newly-amalgamated Oakefield Primary School on Holland Street have been presented with a Dyslexia Friendly School Quality Mark.
The recognition comes after demonstrating their committment to helping children overcome some of the barriers that could hinder them from achieving their full potential.
The quality mark recognises a school environment where children with dyslexia will not only be supported in their academic achievements but in all their school activities.
Schools have to demonstrate an on-going commitment to meeting the needs of children with dyslexia, by using a range of multi-sensory teaching and learning strategies as part of their general teaching for all children, providing more specialised support in class and delivering specific individual programmes.
To apply for the award, schools have to have a trained teacher with a nationally recognised and accredited post-graduate qualification in dyslexia. Both Crewe schools also have specially trained teaching assistants.
Councillor Paul Findlow said: "It is vital children with dyslexia are given the opportunity to maintain the same level or learning as their classmates, and do not feel isolated or left out because they need extra help to develop their literacy skills.
"We want every child in Cheshire East to enjoy their time at school and this Quality Mark pinpoints schools which have gone the extra mile to accommodate dyslexic children and provide an environment where they feel welcome and supported."
