HOMES in Northwich are safer after a burglar was jailed for four years.

Robert Dyson, 39, of no fixed address, was jailed at Chester Crown Court for burglary and theft from motor vehicles after a number of sneak-in burglaries in Rudheath in September.

Insp Paul Loughlin, from Northwich’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve got to the position we’re in now and the number of burglary offences in the area have stopped in recent weeks.

“We have been able to put away an active criminal and actually make people safer.”

The sneak-in thefts took place between midnight and 8.30am on September 9 in Central Road, East Avenue and West Avenue.

Portable valuables such as laptops, cameras, purses, cash, bank cards and handbags were stolen, leading police to warn residents to keep their doors and windows locked and secure.

Insp Loughlin said: “I’m happy that we have targeted the offences, identified the person and, in doing so, should be able to make people in Northwich feel safer.

“But everyone should still be mindful of protecting their own property and being security-minded.”

Police officers ranging from CID to PCSOs worked together to bring Dyson to justice and reassure the community, and information from residents was vital.

Insp Loughlin said: “I would just like to reassure people that when people do commit this horrible type of crime we step up to the mark and do our absolute best to make sure the people of Northwich are safe.

“When you need us we are there.”
