A WINSFORD dad who torched his girlfriend’s clothes in a fit of rage could be jailed.
Wayne Jackson, 28, of Walnut Drive, feared former partner of 10-years, Michelle Birtwistle, was cheating on him after their son told him, ‘mummy had a boyfriend on holiday’.
On Saturday, September 19, he returned home alone, dragged her clothes into the garden and set them alight before smashing the television, seatee, fireplace and mirror in the home they shared in Severn Walk.
Peter Barnett, defending, said Jackson snapped after he was turned away from a bar in Northwich and Miss Birtwistle refused to leave with him.
He said: “He accepts that his actions were bizarre. His partner went with her dad to Turkey for two weeks and then texts came on the phone that weren’t expected. Their five-year-old boy told him ‘mummy had a boyfriend on holiday’.
“The final straw came when he told the bouncer to go and get her to come out but he came back saying, ‘she’s not bothered mate’.
“In his mind his relationship was ending and he took his anger out on the property.”
Robert Youd, prosecuting, said Jackson drank seven pints before returning home and relieving his parents of babysitting duties. His two children continued to sleep until Miss Birtwistle arrived at 5am and called the police.
The defendant pleaded guilty to criminal damage and arson when he appeared before Northwich magistrates on Wednesday, October 7.
Because of the severity of the damage and the fact that the children were upstairs, magistrates warned him he could be jailed. A pre-sentence report will be prepared before sentening on October 30.
