AN inquest will explore the care and diagnosis concerns raised by the family of a 19-year-old who died in hospital.
At Warrington Coroner’s Court on Wednesday, an inquest was formally opened into the death of Vlad Lucaci.
The 19-year-old, of Winsford, died at Leighton Hospital on September 27.
The court heard that Mr Lucaci had a recent history of neck swelling, which was under investigation by two hospitals.
After feeling unwell, he was admitted to Leighton Hospital, where his condition deteriorated and he sadly died.
His identity was confirmed by a hospital nurse to mortuary staff.
The reason for an inquest being requested was given as ‘family issues with his care and diagnosis’.
“It is requested that an inquest be opened adjourned to allow for further work to be completed,” a coroner officer said.
An internal case review by the coroner has been listed for January 26, 2025, with an inquest listed for March 3.
Before concluding the brief hearing, Victoria Davies, area coroner for Cheshire, said: “Given the circumstances of Mr Lucaci’s death, there are potential issues with his care and treatment, making the cause of death unnatural.
“I therefore formally open an inquest into the death of Vlad Lucaci and adjourn for further work to be completed for an inquest on March 3, 2025.”
