FLOODING is expected to impact properties across Mid Cheshire.

The Environment Agency has issued several flood warnings, coverings areas in and around Northwich and Winsford.

Northwich Marina is one of the areas most at risk, with road closures now in place.

Temporary demountable flood barriers have been erected at Barons Quay and Waitrose, while flood gates at Waitrose, Weaver Court and the nursery have all been closed.

Speaking earlier this afternoon, an Environment Agency spokesperson said: "We are out at Northwich closing flood gates and deploying flood defences as part of our emergency response to reduce flood risk.

"The second phase includes installing 69m of temporary demountable flood defences. six flood gates have been closed."

A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesperson added: "As part of the precautionary deployment of phase two flood defences in Northwich, London Road and Dane Road are closed and a diversion is now in place."

A flood warning has also been issued for the River Weaver at Acton Bridge and Weaverham.

The Environment Agency website states: "River levels are slowly rising and are expected to peak tonight, Sunday, November 24.

"Areas most at risk include some properties close to the River Weaver along Warrington Road and Sandy Lane.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and monitoring rainfall and river levels.

"Start acting on your flood plan if you have one."

In Winsford, a warning has been issued for the Weaver Navigation.

While river levels have peaked they are expected to remain high for the remainder of the day.

Areas most at risk include properties along New Road, Winsford Bridge and the Marina.

The Environment Agency website urges people to 'take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water'.
