A MAN has been jailed after brutally attacking his grandparents who had welcomed him into their home when he had nowhere else to live.
Lewis Courtney, now of HMP Altcourse, was staying with his grandparents in Winsford when he attended their home on May 29 earlier this year.
The 24-year-old quickly became volatile and verbally abusive before the situation escalated and he attacked his 63-year-old grandmother – striking her to her face and hips, causing significant bruising and swelling.
The following day, after his grandparents returned home from their local chip shop, Courtney launched into another attack.
He immediately became irate and attacked his grandmother for a second time, grabbing at the back of her top, pulling her backwards and dragging her from the bathroom to the bedroom.
Courtney then turned his attention onto his grandfather, aged 74, punching him in the face and ribs.
The 'horrific' abuse continued leaving both victims needing to be taken to hospital due to their injuries.
Police were notified of the attacks on May 30, before Courtney was swiftly arrested.
He appeared at Chester Crown Court on November 18 having previously pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Sentencing, Judge Steven Everett jailed Courtney for a total of three years and 11 months.
Following the hearing, Detective Sergeant James Elliott, of Cheshire Police, said: "Courtney took full advantage of his grandparents, who were already vulnerable and recovering from pre-existing health conditions, when they welcomed him into their home at a time when he had nowhere else to live.
"The victims have suffered a horrific ordeal and were made to live in fear, petrified of the abuse at the hands of their own grandson.
"I welcome the sentence handed to Courtney, and I hope this result will provide closure to the victims and their family and allow them to move forward with their lives."
