A LIBRARY roof is set to be replaced.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed that the replacement of Winsford Library’s roof will begin next week.

Scaffolding will be erected ahead of the work getting underway on Monday, November 25.

The library will remain open as normal throughout the works, with disruption kept to a minimum wherever possible.

“Winsford Library has always played a key role at the heart of the town,” said Cllr Lisa Denson, cabinet member for A Fairer Future, with responsibility for libraries, arts and culture.

“It is fantastic that the works are being completed in such a way that the library can continue to remain open unaffected for people to use and enjoy.

“The library offers a varied collection of books, Wi-Fi and computer use, with lots of events and activities going on for people of all ages.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council has stated that the work is due to be completed ‘in the early new year’.

The replacement of the library’s roof forms part of a long-term strategy to revitalise Winsford town centre.

Cllr Nathan Pardoe, cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, added: “It is great news for the town that works on replacing sections of the Winsford Library roof will now take place, making an already cherished library fit for the future.

“They are taking place alongside the first phase of the council’s ambitious regeneration of Winsford Town Centre, showing Cheshire West and Chester Council’s continued commitment to Winsford.

“Changes to public shopping habits mean modern town centres must be about more than retail.

“Modern town centres are also about culture and providing community hubs for learning and creativity, which is precisely what the council is supporting with this work.”
