POLICE have urged people not to ‘waste their money’ this Christmas.

Officers in Winsford have taken action after receiving reports of a dirt bike being used ‘illegally’ in the Wharton area on Wednesday (November 13).

The off-road vehicle was discovered in the garden of a property on Thursday morning (November 14) where it was seized by officers and sent off for destruction.

A Winsford Police spokesperson said: “After receiving a report from a member of the community, Winsford BEAT officers conducted some enquiries and located this bike in the garden of an address this morning.

“The occupants wouldn't answer the door, so we took the bike.

“Funnily enough this provoked a response from the address, allowing us to serve them with the seizure paperwork.

“The bike will now be sent for destruction.”

With Christmas approaching, Winsford Police have used this latest incident to remind residents of the rules around using off-road, e-scooters and electric bikes.

“We'll take this opportunity to remind parents to be aware of the rules around off-road bikes, e-scooters and electric bikes before they are purchased for Christmas presents,” the spokesperson added.

“There's a good chance you'll be wasting your money if you decide to buy one. If we find you using one in public without insurance, we'll seize it and you won't be getting it back.

“It's your responsibility to know the rules.

“If you have any information about the illegal use of bikes or scooters in the Winsford area, where they are stored and who they belong to, give us a call.”
