KILLER driver Joshua Eldred has been handed further jail time for crashing into a parked car just 10 days before causing a fatal head-on collision.

The 31-year-old, of no fixed abode in Northwich, appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on November 6 charged with three offences.

These charges related to an incident on July 8 when he crashed into a parked car in Mount Pleasant Lane, Northwich, while over the limit for alcohol and drugs.

On July 18, just 10 days after this collision, Eldred killed Timothy Burgess and seriously injured the 48-year-old's partner Wendy Wall in a crash on the A533 in Little Leigh.

Eldred was jailed at Chester Crown Court on October 25 for 12 years, of which he will serve at least eight, after admitting causing death and serious injuries by dangerous driving.

At the hearing in November, Crewe magistrates heard Eldred had 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood, exceeding the limit of 80, during the incident on July 8.

He was also found to be unfit to drive through drugs when he was involved in the collision, after which he fled the scene.

Eldred pleaded guilty to all three charges and was handed a further eight weeks' imprisonment, to be served concurrently to his existing sentence.

After already having been hit with a 10-year driving ban when sentenced for the fatal crash, magistrates extended this disqualification by a further three years and 28 days.
