A KNIFE bin is available for people across Northwich to dispose of sharp instruments safely.

A knife bin has been out in the Kingsmead and Shakerley area this week.

A police spokesman said: “The knife bin has been out in the Kingsmead and Shakerley area as residents contacted their local PCSO so that they can dispose of a number of knives.

“If you have any knives that you need to dispose of, then just contact your PCSO.”

Any unwanted sharp instruments such as kitchen knives, tools, scissors, display knives and swords can be handed in.

The knife collection is being held to prevent dangerous weapons getting into the wrong hands.

It comes as PCSO Karen Nixon visited Rudheath High School with emergency nurse clinician Rob Jackson on Monday to deliver a presentation around knife crime.

Pupils in years seven, eight, nine and 10 took part.

Rob supports Cheshire police with the fight against knife crime.

He spoke about incidents he deals with first hand in A&E and the consequences of carrying a knife.

Cheshire continues to have one of the lowest rates of knife-related crimes.
