SARAH and Elliott Holman have been together 10 years.
They got engaged at the Top of the Rock in New York 18 months ago and tied the knot at Merrydale Manor in Knutsford in September.
Here, Sarah and Elliott, who are both 29 and from Winnington, tell us their wedding story, in their own words.
If you’ve tied the knot this year or are planning to get married in the next few months, and would like to appear in ‘Our Wedding Day’ feature, email heidi.summerfield@newsquest.co.uk
When and how did you meet?
Sarah: In Northwich town centre, through mutual friends, in December 2014
What did you think of each other when you first met?
Sarah: We liked the look of each other!
Where and when did you get engaged?
Elliott: We got engaged in New York City in March 2023.
How did one of you propose?
Sarah: Elliott proposed at the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Centre).
What was the date of the wedding and reception?
Elliott: We got married on September 19, 2024
What was the location of the wedding and reception?
Elliott: Merrydale Manor, Knutsford
How were you feeling on the morning of your wedding?
Sarah: Excited and nervous but mostly excited that I was finally marrying my best friend.
Elliott: Just really excited.
How would you describe your wedding?
Sarah: It was a dream come true. I felt like a real life princess.
Elliott: It was the most amazing day ever.
How many guests did you have?
Elliott: We had 62 day guests.
What did your guests eat?
Elliott: Starter was leek and potato soup. main was roast chicken dinner and dessert was a Malteser cheesecake.
Did you have a first dance? If so, what was the song and why did you choose it?
Sarah: Yes, we had Demi Lovato’s 4 Ever 4 Me. The words of the song are so special and it’s like the words are coming from me. Demi sings about how she has found her soulmate and she can’t help but keep falling in love with them.
Did you have speeches? How did they go?
Elliott: Yes, we had speeches from me, my best man Liam and Sarah’s Dad. We had three different styles of speeches and each went down well with our guests.
What are your favourite memories of the day?
Sarah: Seeing my future husband at the top of the aisle waiting for me and our fur baby Maya joining us at our wedding reception for photos and a walk the venue grounds. She definitely stole the show while she was there! Having photos with my nana - she is the last grandparent between us and it was just so special that she could be there.
Elliott: Playing pool in the man cave before the ceremony and seeing the doors open with my future wife coming through with her dad. The shock of everyone’s faces when one of the waiters fell over and started singing. This is something only my mum and I knew about.
Tell us a little bit about your outfits on the day
Sarah: My chosen dress was the third one I had tried on. I tried eight in total at my first wedding dress shop - Sarah’s Wedding Boutique in Northwich. As a little girl, I always wanted the big princess dress, like Cinderella. However, as I got older, I wanted a more fitted, fishtail style dress. I went to my wedding dress fitting in September last year with an open mind, so I tried on any style that my entourage wanted me to try on. My mum really wanted me to try on the princess style dress, that I definitely was not going to end up purchasing – or so I thought. However, when Sarah put me in the dress, I cracked a little smile in the fitting room and when I came out to show my entourage, the room went quiet and tears filled all our eyes. I had found the one and I fell in love with it. After trying on a further five dresses, I still wanted the Cinderella princess dress. I then tried on veils, chose a veil and said yes to the dress. I am sure my younger self would have been jumping for joy that I chose my childhood dream wedding dress. Our colour scheme was sage green and light pink.
Elliott: I had a dark green suit with a beige waist coat. Our dads, the groomsmen and my best man also had dark green suits.
Did you go on honeymoon? Where did you go?
Sarah: We’re going on honeymoon this month and it can’t come soon enough! We did however, go on a mini moon the weekend after our wedding with our fur baby in Wales. We stayed in the most perfect tiny home with beautiful views and of course a hot tub. Just what we needed after exploring all day with our pooch.
Please tell us a little bit about the things you have in common. Why do you love each other? Why did you want to get married?
Sarah: We are outgoing people and love to socialise. We are both very family orientated, love animals and movies. We have so much in common and get on really well – we really are best friends. We think that if your partner is your best friend, then they are your soul mate.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your day or your relationship?
Sarah: We just want to give a massive shout out to all the team at Merrydale Manor, who made our wedding day a real dream come true. Also, to our amazing family and friends, who were all there to help celebrate the best day of our lives so far.
