NORTHWICH paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Veterans, cadets, public officials, members of the public and other community groups gathered this morning to observe two minutes of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the two world wars and other conflicts.
Starting at 9.40am, a parade made its way to St Helen’s Church, where a service was led by Reverend Andrew Ridley.
Opening the service he said: “We are here to worship, to give thanks for the freedom we enjoy, and to recognise what that has cost and continues to cost so many.
“Psalm 46 says ‘God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble’. Our prayer today is that God will guide our world into lasting peace.”
Following the service, the congregation met at the Cenotaph on Church Road, where more hymns and prayers were heard.
At 11am, Northwich joined the rest of the nation in pausing for a moment to reflect on the service and sacrifices the Armed Forces make on our behalf.
Wreaths were then laid at the War Memorial, before the parade made its way back down Chester Way, with onlookers lining the road.
