AUDIENCES in Northwich are being invited to relive the times when skirts got shorter, hair got longer, and rock 'n' roll reigned supreme.
Twist and Shout, which producers call ‘a musical extravaganza brought to life by an all-star cast from London’s West End', hits Northwich Memorial Court on Friday, January 10, 2025.
The show revives the explosion of British music which began in 1962, and spans the vibrant decade of the swinging sixties, from the rise of Beatlemania to the era of free love and psychedelia.
The show pays homage to legends such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Manfred Mann, Lulu, Sandy Shaw, and many more.
Audiences can expect to hear timeless anthems such as She Loves You, Glad All Over, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Ferry Cross The Mersey, Shout, You’re My World, and Something Tells Me I’m Into Something Good.
Twist and Shout's creator and star, David Kettle, who's been touring it for eight years, said: “The real star of the show is the music itself.
“The songs from this wonderful era are so well written with unforgettable melodies and clever lyrics. They really stick in people’s minds.
“Plus, sixties music has never stopped being cool. The songs, band, and solo singers from this era are iconic and a great inspiration to some of the best writers and performers who came after.
“Just look at the Beatles' influence on Oasis, and Amy Winehouse often quoted Dusty Springfield as a major inspiration.
“We’re really excited to be bringing the show to new audiences. Every regional theatre is unique, but they all somehow manage to capture the heart and soul of their towns.
“I’m especially excited to be coming to Northwich Memorial Court as I’ve got a lot of friends in the area, who’ll all be coming along to support us. I can’t wait.”
David said in addition to the music, Twist and Shout’s beautiful bespoke costumes, combined with stunning stage design, brings the colours and culture of the sixties to life in a visually spectacular experience.
He added: “Every note and every outfit takes you deeper into the heart of an unforgettable era when British music conquered the world.
“For those who lived through the sixties, this is a chance to relive the magic. For those who didn’t, Twist and Shout offers the perfect opportunity to discover what made the decade so iconic.”
“People say if you remember the sixties, you really weren’t there. Now you can find out exactly what you missed.”
The show begins at 7.30pm. Tickets can be booked at Brio’s website.
