A CARAVAN which ‘blighted’ the Northwich community has been shut down by police.

Police have placed a closure order on a caravan involved in drug related activity and ‘persistent’ anti-social behaviour.

It means that anyone who attempts to enter the vehicle, on wasteland off Liverpool Street, in the next three months will be committing offence and can be arrested and prosecuted.

PC Alex Aston, of Northwich Neighbourhood Team, said: “This is a fantastic result for residents, who have reported numerous instances of drug related activity and ASB connected to the caravan over recent months.

“The behaviour of the occupants was totally unacceptable and was having a significant detrimental impact on the quality of life of local residents.

“We want people to be able to live in their homes without having to endure this sort of behaviour and the closure order is another example of our commitment to targeting those who undermine our communities and bring misery to others.

“At Northwich Local Policing Unit we will continue to tackle those who engage in anti-social or criminal activity at their own home. Those who do so risk losing their property.”

Officers from Northwich Neighbourhood Team gathered a catalogue of evidence in relation to numerous reports of anti-social behaviour and drug related activity at the caravan.

On Thursday (October 31) they applied for the closure order, which was granted by Warrington Magistrates Court under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Following the hearing, the caravan has been boarded up for a period of up to three months.

Officers will conduct regular checks of the caravan to ensure that the closure order is not breached.

If anyone is found to have breached the order, they are liable to be arrested and face up to six months in prison, a £5,000 fine or both.
