A BRIDGE was struck by a car.

Temporary traffic lights and a new speed limit have been introduced on Swanlow Lane in Winsford.

It follows a crash on Thursday (October 31) which resulted in damage to Ashbrook Bridge.

A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesperson said: “Due to a collision last night at Ashbrook Bridge on Swanlow Lane, Winsford, B5074, which has caused damage to the bridge, two-way traffic lights and a 20mph speed limit are currently in operation until repair works are completed.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Cheshire Police were called to the scene shortly before 11.30pm.

Upon arrival they found a white Vauxhall Corsa, driven by a 20-year-old woman, had crashed into the bridge.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 11.28pm on Thursday, officers received reports of a road traffic collision in Winsford.

“Attending the scene on Swanlow Lane, Winsford, officers found that a white Vauxhall Corsa had collided with a bridge.

“The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, sustained no injuries during the incident. No arrests were made.”

The notice for the new temporary speed limit states that it has been introduce ‘for safety reasons’ and ‘to enable bridge repair works to be carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council’.

It adds that a through route may not always be available, in which case motorists should use alternative routes.

The order officially came into force on Friday (November 1) and will remain in place for ‘a period not exceeding 18 months or until the work which it is proposed to carry out have been completed whichever is earliest’.

The works are expected to take around six weeks.
