A vacant industrial site in Winsford could be converted into a Ford service centre creating 15 jobs.

Ford dealership Cliff Dickenson & Son has submitted a planning application to transform the former Briggs & Stratton building on Road Four, Winsford Industrial Estate.

The 2,300 sq m site site - which consists of a workshop and office block - formerly produced engines for outdoor power equipment but has sat vacant for two years.

The planning application said 15 full time roles would be created if the plans are signed off, with the service centre set to open seven days a week, between 7am-7pm.

Cliff Dickenson started out as a cycle shop on Station Road in 1927. The business has since expanded, with the main addition being the purchase of the old Co-Op site next door to the garage in 1989. The business is still owned and run by family members and is now in its fourth generation.

A planning document submitted in support of the scheme, said: "The service and parts operation now requires extra workshop and valeting bays, due to the success of the business.

"Planning permissions had been granted to add a workshop extension and valet bays on the existing site. However, due to the proposed additions, the site would then not allow for any future expansion if the business continues to grow."

The document said the site’s existing workshop area will become a vehicle workshop and will include eight lift bays and MOT bay. A work canteen will be added on the first floor, along with an admin area and a meeting room.

It added: "An opportunity has now arisen (and) an ideal workshop site, in a good location, has become available. It is intended to move the main workshop and parts facility, including customer service reception to this site.

"The existing building on the site will convert to a Ford service centre, and will allow the required workshop bays, parts department and office space without the need to be extended."
