A 60-YEAR-OLD man has been banned from the roads after being caught behind the wheel of a car while on cocaine.

John Morana, of Bentley Grove, Winsford, was driving a VW Golf on the northbound carriageway of the M6 near Middlewich when he was caught on August 30 earlier this year.

Subsequent blood tests revealed Morana had 12 micrograms of cocaine and 559 micrograms of benzoylecgonine, a cocaine breakdown product, in his system.

The legal limits for these drugs are 10 micrograms and 50 micrograms respectively.

When he was caught, Morana was also found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine.

Charged with two counts of drug-driving and one of possessing a class A drug, Morana appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on October 24 where he pleaded guilty to the offences.

Taking his admission into account, the bench disqualified him from driving for 36 months and fined him £120.

Morana must also pay £85 in costs and a £48 victim surcharge. An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the cocaine.
