DRIVERS are being warned of a road closure in Middlewich with a hair-raising 18-mile diversion.

Cheshire East Council is to close Booth Lane between its junctions with Cross Lane and Tetton Lane on Monday, October 28.

The closure is expected to last until Sunday, November 3, though the footway will remain open throughout.

What’s more, the council’s published diversion recommends an alternative 18-mile route, which it says would take around 32 minutes to complete.

Residents have already been dealing with two-way lights on Booth Lane since Monday, September 30.

These works, and those starting on October 28, are to allow contractor M & J Evans Construction, to complete kerb alignment, resurfacing, and white line painting.

The proposed diversion, which the council says is ‘the most suitable route’ takes in Booth Lane, London Road, Middlewich Road, Middlewich Roundabout, Old Mill Road, Inner Relief Road Roundabout, Congleton Road, Spark Lane, Sandbach Road, Wolstenholme Elmy Way, Holmes Chapel Road, Marsh Lane, Station Road, Chester Road, A54 Holmes Chapel Roundabout, Holmes Chapel Road Roundabout, Kinderton Street, Leadsmithy Street, and Lewin Street.  

A Cheshire East spokesman said: “This order will come into operation on Monday, October 28, and will continue in force for 18 months or for such less time as is necessary to complete the work to be executed in the highway.

“It is anticipated the works will be completed by Sunday, November 3.
