A MAN who died after being struck by a lorry took his own life, an inquest has heard.
Jonathan Stanley Brown died age 31 when he was hit by a heavy goods vehicle on the A556 near Lostock Gralam.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.55am on June 18.
An inquest at Cheshire Coroner’s Court on Wednesday (October 16) heard how Mr Brown, a pedestrian, deliberately placed himself in front of the oncoming HGV with the intent to end his own life.
The driver of the lorry had ‘no opportunity’ to avoid the collision, assistant coroner Elizabeth Wheeler stated.
The court heard Mr Brown, of Broken Cross in Rudheath, had tried to take his own life several months earlier by walking in front of traffic when he feared his medication would be stopped on medical grounds.
In June 2024, there was a shortage of the medication Mr Brown needed, impacting his supply.
The inquest heard on the date of his death, he had a very limited supply left with no immediate prospect of being able to obtain more.
Additionally, he and his partner had broken up in the hours before his death.
Concluding, Mrs Wheeler ruled Mr Brown’s death was a suicide.
