MOTORISTS have been told to leave extra time as a result of roadworks and faulty traffic lights.
The A49 Tarporley Road is closed this week as works are carried out by Scottish Power Renewable Energy.
However, traffic lights on the A556 near Oakmere are currently out of order, causing 'heavy congestion' in the area.
Northwich Police have urged drivers to leave extra times for their journeys this afternoon (October 10).
A spokesperson for the force said: "Due to an incident which has happened around the A49 Tarporley Road and with some traffic lights being out of order around the area, there is heavy congestion around the A556 Chester Road and the A54 Middlewich Road.
These congestions are affecting both traffic heading to Chester and Northwich.
"Please allow extra time for journeys and more information will follow."
The Tarporley Road closure came into effect on Monday (October 7).
It is expected to only be in force for five days, until Friday (October 11).
Cheshire Police confirmed the highways team has been alerted to the current traffic issues.
