REPAIRS to a bridge damaged in a crash are set to get underway.

The A530 near Middlewich will shut for several days next week as repairs are made to Croxton Bridge.

It follows a crash involving a grey Seat Ibiza and a white Toyota Rav4 shortly before 4pm on September 3.

Fortunately, there were no injuries but the road did have to be closed for nearly three hours.

The A530 will now close for four days, from Monday (October 14) until Friday (October 18).

It will be shut from the junction with the B5309 King Street to the roundabout connecting to the A54 Chester Road.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed access at each side of the bridge will be maintained.

The crash came just weeks after an amended planning application was submitted to Cheshire East Council, seeking permission to build 66 homes.

Dozens of neighbours raised objections, with many concerned about the increase of traffic.

Middlewich resident Alan Langley said: "There's been incidents here since my dad was in the fire brigade.

"The road speed needs reducing from Croxton Hall as traffic does not want to give way."

Another resident said: “I live off Croxton Lane and the traffic is terrible, the one-way bridge is already dangerous. More housing along this road is going to cause chaos.”

A third added: “We do not support additional housing in this town without investment in infrastructure, the roads and traffic are terrible and Croxton Lane bridge is dangerous as it is.”

A decision on this application is due to be made by October 25.
