MIDDLEWICH High School's new £160,000 3G pitch will be a 'fantastic' addition for students and the community.

The King Edward Street school unveiled the newly resurfaced pitch on Friday, October 4, following a refurbishment.

A ceremony was held at the upgraded all-weather facility, which was officially opened by MP Andrew Cooper, with members of Middlewich Town FC, students, staff, governors, and representatives from The Sir John Brunner Foundation in attendance.

During the ribbon-cutting, head teacher Lydia Naylor emphasised the importance of investing in grassroots sports and modern facilities, highlighting the collaboration between the foundation and Cheshire East Council, which jointly funded the project.

She said: "This new pitch is a fantastic addition to our school and community

"We are truly grateful to The Sir John Brunner Foundation and Cheshire East Council for making this vision a reality."

The FA-standard pitch provides a high-quality, year-round surface for sports and training, which promises to significantly benefit both the school and the local community.

Matt Snelson, CEO of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, who attended the opening ceremony, added: "The resurfaced 3G pitch is part of a £2m renovation at Middlewich High School.

"In addition to the completed roofing project, we're upgrading the heating system, IT infrastructure, and fire safety, including new doors for improved safety and aesthetics.

"These upgrades follow exceptional 2024 results, particularly in English, maths, science, and art, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities."
