A WOMAN has died after being struck by a number of vehicles on the M56.
Cheshire Police officers attended the scene of a 'serious' incident at around 8.24pm on Friday (October 5) along the carriageway between junction 10, for Stretton, and junction 11, at Preston Brook.
Traffic was held while police and emergency services attended to the incident.
Officers found on arrival that a pedestrian had been 'struck by a number of vehicles'.
The 60-year-old woman from Northwich died at the scene.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Her next of kin have been informed and a casefile will be prepared for the coroner.
"Both sides of carriageway were subsequently closed whilst officers dealt with the incident, with the junction itself remaining closed until 10.30am the following morning."
