A 72-bed care home with cinema room and salon could be built in Northwich if plans are given the green light.

Liberty Care Developments wants to construct the home on London Road in Davenham and said it would create 65 jobs and provide £15m of investment in the local economy.

The home would be designed to provide specialist nursing and dementia care for elderly people with a range of complex needs.

The proposed 2.26-acre site is an uncultivated field to the west of Davenham Nurseries and is in the Davenham Conservation Area, with residential properties nearby.

If approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council, the 1994 sq m facility would be two-storey and designed to be 'dementia friendly', with rooms arranged into clusters to provide what the applicant called a 'more homely feel'.

The rooms would be en-suite and there would also be a cinema room, hair salon, lounges and dining areas.

A document submitted in support of the plans, said: "The home will meet a demand in the area for high quality, specialist facilities and care provided by a highly respected operator.

"The internal spaces will be designed to be as homely as possible to create familiar and comfortable surroundings for the residents to live.

"A variety of rooms have been designed to both calm the residents and also provide stimulating experiences that prevent them from becoming bored or frustrated."

The company said the 'cluster' design approach would also mean care staff can be dedicated to specific resident groups. A pre-application had already been submitted to at the end of May.

The document added: "The residents in the care home will have reached a stage where they cannot safely live in their own homes or unable to acquire the correct type of care in hospital.

"The new 72-bedroom care home will provide high quality, purpose built, accommodation for members of the local community who have reached a point in their lives where they need round-the-clock care."

The planned parking area would provide 32 parking spaces including three disabled spaces, an ambulance/drop-off bay, along with three visitor bicycle spaces.

The document added: "By providing care home facilities in the local area, the elderly population of Davenham will be able to stay within their local area, close to family and friends."
