A TEDDY bear zipwire and a competitive Scalextric track were among the highlights at church's fundraising weekend.

The busy few days at St Mary's Church in Weaverham began on Friday, September 27, when a coffee morning was organised to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

And by raising almost £2,400, the coffee morning got the fundraising weekend off to the perfect start.

The following day, the team at the church put on a steam fair, feature steam and vintage vehicles outside the building, along with a fairground organ.

Inside the building was a model railway and a Scalextric race track, which was organised by Reverend Paul Withington.

Members of the congregation John and Margaret Jefferson attended the festivities.

The said: "The atmosphere was fantastic. There were loads and loads of people, who came in from the village for the steam fair.

"It was really popular with everyone. The teddy bear zipwire was very popular with the children."

The would include installing solar panels and an updated heating system to reduce the carbon footprint.

The weekend was rounded off with the Harvest Festival service on the Sunday, with gifts of food donated for the Mid Cheshire Foodbank.

A further fundraiser will take place this coming weekend, with a concert featuring the Kelsborrow Choir and a youth band.

The event starts at 7pm and, while entry is free, there will be an opportunity to make a donation to the Building the Future fund.
