THE Winsford community has stepped up to help a vulnerable rough sleeper found in a park.

A concerned member of the public informed police officers in the town after coming across the man on Over Recreation Ground, off Alexandra Street, this morning, Friday.

The BEAT team attended spoke to the man, who revealed he was homeless and had nowhere else to go.

Officers escorted him to the Very Green Grocery in High Street, where the man was able to get a warm drink and some food.

The police, working with partners, are looking to find somewhere more permanent for the man to stay.

A spokesman for the Winsford Police BEAT team said: "This morning Cheshire Police were made aware of a male sleeping rough on Over Recreation Ground by a concerned member of the public.

"Winsford BEAT attended the location and spoke to a male who is currently homeless and had nowhere else to sleep.

"He was taken to the Very Green Grocery on High Street so that he could have a warm drink and some food.

"Working with partnership agencies including ForFutures, the CWAC outreach team, Gail from the GGO and Cllr Nathan Pardoe, we have taken steps to find the male somewhere more permanent to reside.

"Thanks to all involved who are now taking care of this vulnerable male, ensuring that he is now safe and warm."
