Cheshire West and Chester Council said work is under way to ensure repairs are carried out to a ‘dangerous’ building in Northwich after two pedestrians were apparently injured by falling debris.

One person was recently taken to hospital after witnesses said what appeared to be debris had fallen off a building on High Street and struck two people on September 23.

Fire crews attended at around 10.40am where they put a cordon in place and informed the council.

Ambulance crews were also dispatched, with one person being treated at the scene and another taken to hospital with what ambulance staff described at the time as minor injuries.

The council said it had since been working with the building’s owner to ensure it was made safe, and providing advice to neighbouring businesses to ensure they could continue trading.

A council spokesman said: “The council were informed last Monday of the dangerous structure at the privately owned site on High Street, with the incident occurring at the rear of the premises in a small alleyway in between High Street and Market Street."

The spokesman added that the council’s building control team had been on site to assess the situation and had been working with those impacted and partner organisations to ensure the area was safe.

He added that the affected neighbouring business had received advice from the authority's building control and environmental health teams to ensure that they could continue trading as normal.

He added: “Building control are in contact with the owner of the unoccupied building and will work with them to ensure that their building is structurally safe and that any necessary repairs are undertaken."
