BEER will help fund a new Scout hut.

The 1st Davenham Scouts Group are preparing to host their ever-popular beer festival.

Funds raised will go towards the construction of their new meeting place at Peckmill Scout Wood, off London Road.

Chris Lawton, chair of the group, said: “This event has been a big hit with the community in recent years so we’re really excited to see it back this October.

“All profits from the Davenham Scouts beer festival will stay in the village, building up the pot which will help us deliver a brand-new Scout and community hall for everyone to enjoy and benefit from.

“We’ve a range of local and national ales and ciders to sample, as well as delicious hot food from our amazing team of volunteer chefs!

“We look forward to seeing everyone there.”

For the past 13 years, Davenham Scouts have been meeting outdoors at Peckmill Wood, using temporary facilities such as portable toilets and a shipping container for storage.

In June 2019, the group purchased the 2.4-acre site and last August  their application for a two-storey hut was greenlit by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The upcoming beer festival is one of many events the group has organised to help fund the new hall.

Over the summer, they put on the first-ever Party at Peckmill with live music and BBQ food and this month the Beavers have been completing cycling challenges to help add to the pot.

So far, they have raised around £70,000, with about £4,000 of this coming from last year’s beer festival.

They are hoping that this year’s event, at Davenham Cricket Club, will bring in a similar amount.

Taps will be pouring from 6pm to 11pm on Friday October 25 and Saturday October 26.

Tickets, which cost £5 per day, can be purchased now by contacting beerfestival@davenhamscouts.org.uk.
