FREE informative events are being held to prevent elderly residents becoming victims of fraud.

Age UK Cheshire is hosting a series of sessions to combat fraud and protect older people.

Informative events titled ‘Scam Proof? Protect Yourself and Others from Fraud’ are aimed at raising awareness and equipping the community with essential tools to prevent fraud.

Expert speakers from Cheshire East Council Trading Standards, Cheshire Police, Crown Prosecution Service, and Age UK Cheshire Scams Awareness Team will highlight the warning signs to watch out for.

Scam survivors will share their personal stories, offering powerful insights into the emotional and financial impact of fraud.

The events taking place during the third week of October are designed to help people identify, prevent, and protect against the increasing threat of scams.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, technology has enhanced convenience but also created new opportunities for scammers to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

These events will highlight the tactics used by fraudsters—whether over the phone, online, or at the doorstep—and offer practical strategies to protect personal and financial information.

The sessions are designed for residents and those working or volunteering with older people.

Sessions will be held at Sandbach Town Hall on Tuesday, October 15, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, The Guild for Lifelong Learning in Wilmslow on Wednesday, October 16 from 2pm to 4pm.

A virtual event will take place on Thursday, October 17 from 2pm to 3.45pm.

Admission is free and the sessions are open to all ages.

People taking part will have the opportunity to connect with local organisations dedicated to protecting older adults from scams.
