A CREMATORIUM reclaimed a prestigious title at a national awards show.
Birches Crematorium has been named Crematorium of the Year at the AGFD Good Funeral Awards.
It is the second time the site has won the prize, despite only opening its doors in 2020.
Located near Lach Dennis, Birches was named Crematorium of the Year in 2022 and was a finalist last time out.
General manager Angela Dunn said: “We are delighted to receive this award which reflects the care, hard work and dedication of every single member of our team."
Birches Crematorium offers a range of services and memorials, including outdoors on its six acres of landscaped gardens.
Earlier this year, the centre launched its own choir to bring together the community with those who have recently lost a loved one.
The group already has 40 members and has performed at the summer and D-Day remembrance services held at Birches.
Operations manager Pete Sadler-Eastwood added: “The choir has been a great success since it began earlier this year.
“By enabling the community to join together in song, we’ve been able to make a real difference to people’s journeys of bereavement.
“Anyone is welcome to join – we meet on the first Sunday of each month – meetings are free of charge and include plenty of tea and cake!”
The annual award show, which is run by the Association of Green Funeral Directors (AFGD), took place on Sunday, September 14, at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
Other categories included Gravedigger of the Year, Coffin Supplier of the Year, and Celebrant of the Year.
