POLICE have eliminated two teenage boys from their enquiry into the circumstances surrounding Nantwich teenager Jonty Evan's death.

The boys, both 16 and from Crewe, were arrested on Thursday, September 5, on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm, Cheshire Police confirmed.

A police spokesman has now confirmed the boys have been released and no longer form part of the enquiry.

For legal reasons, the boys cannot be named.

Jonty Evans was reported missing from his family home in Baddington on Saturday, August 31.

Sadly, the teenager's body was found in the River Weaver by police officers near Riverside, Nantwich, at 5.13pm on Sunday, September 1.

Enquiries into Jonty's whereabouts before he entered the river are ongoing and Cheshire Police have launched an appeal for information.

They've asked anyone who was in the Waterlode area of Nantwich between 12.30am and 2.30am on Saturday 31 August and may have seen Jonty, to please get in touch.

They’re also asking people in the area to check CCTV, dashcam, and Ring doorbell footage.

Detective Inspector Nigel Parr, of the major investigation team, said: "I would ask anyone who has any information which may help officers in understanding the circumstances surrounding Jonty's death to please come forward."
