A PUB has seemingly served its final pint.

Doors to the Kinderton in Middlewich closed on Sunday night (September 8).

It was hoped that new owners could be found for the business, which was saved from being sold to developers in 2018 by a consortium led by Middlewich businessman Shaun Ellison.

Unfortunately, despite being on the market for more than a year, no buyer has come forward.

“Despite some near misses we have been unable to secure a buyer for the Kinderton which means that this will be the last week which we will be open,” said a spokesperson for the venue.

“We would once again like to express our sincere thanks to all our lovely customers that have supported us, hopefully you will have fond memories of your visits to the Kinderton.”

When the consortium purchased the Kinderton in 2018, Shaun said he only intended to run it on a short-term basis.

With the hotel ‘busier than ever’, last year Shaun decided to put the business up for sale.

He said at the time: “The project was never a long term one, being local residents, our priority was to save the venue and turn it into a valuable asset which we hope we have done, the hotel has never been busier, and we have become an established venue for both private events and live entertainment.

“We feel now is the right time to look to pass the baton on to new owners who will continue to share our passion and look to further enhance what we have been able to create in a relatively short period of time.”

Originally priced at £1.6 million, the asking price for the Kinderton is now down to £995,000.

While no buyer has yet been found, there is still hope someone may take over the waterside pub.

A spokesperson said: “We hope that there still remains a possibility in the near future that someone will take the business on and ensure that Middlewich retains one of its important hospitality venues.”
