WHEN Namix opened its doors in 2019, there wasn’t anything like it.

Owners Charlotte Wood, Chris Wood and Tom Merrick had spotted a gap in the market and wanted to merge a traditional gym with a sports injury clinic.

Five years on and the whole fitness team at Namix is celebrating a hat-trick of victories in our Best of competition with the centre taking this year’s Best Gym in Mid Cheshire award.

Eight top gyms made the shortlist in the latest Best of 2024 category and Namix Performance Centre came out on top making it a hat-trick of titles.

Charlotte, Chris and Tom opened Namix Performance Centre on Kingfisher Court in Northwich in September 2019.

Charlotte is the managing director, Chris is the clinic director and Tom is the gym manager.

Earlier this year, the gym was expanded to include a neighbouring unit which features the new strength and conditioning (S&C) studio.

Charlotte, who is 28 and lives in Hartford, said: “We are an S&C focussed gym and injury clinic that helps people to improve their gym confidence, supports their recovery from musculoskeletal injuries and to improve their overall lifestyle from physical wellbeing to mental and social wellbeing.

“We offer gym memberships that varies from being gym-only memberships to memberships with our popular S&C classes included.

“You can even bolt on a monthly training plan, sports therapy session or unlimited Normatec recovery to your memberships.

“We allow our members to add bolt-ons to their membership to allow them to choose what works for them and they can tailor their own gym experience.”

Chris, Charlotte and Tom all have strong sporting and exercise backgrounds and felt there was a gap in the marketplace for a business like Namix, merging a traditional gym with a sports injury clinic.

Tom has a BSc honours degree in sports and exercise science at Chester, Chris completed a BSc honours degree in sports therapy at UCLAN and Charlotte completed a BA honours degree in sports business management.

Chris worked with a clinic chain before setting up the injury clinic practise and worked with athletes from various sporting backgrounds.

Charlotte has worked in the leisure industry and professional sport.

Eleven years later, the trio have seen the demand for what Namix offers go from strength to strength.

Chris, who is 34 and from Wincham, said: “We decided to open a gym back in 2018 and in 2019 it came into fruition.

“The venue location was the right place and right time for us and when it came available we took a leap of faith from being an injury clinic owner to being a gym owner with an injury clinic within.

“We haven’t looked back since and we can’t imagine our life without our gym, our team and members now.”

Charlotte said: “Namix is different from other businesses in our industry because of our unique blend of injury rehabilitation in combination with quality fitness training.

“The fitness industry is full of gimmicks and five-minute fixes however, Namix stays true to its medical roots by only investing and utilising research-backed methods which lead to consistent and reliable results.

“Also, unlike most commercial gyms, we foster a strong community spirit through our regular gym socials and our recent inter-gym competitions.

“The Namix Games involves members competing in solo, partner or team events to test their fitness against other members while supporting each other’s achievements along the way.

“We are also unique in that our in-house musculoskeletal clinic provides a value-added service for our members, particularly those who are struggling with injury or need to gain that extra boost of energy from our recovery sessions.

“Where most gyms struggle with members who are injured, this is where we come into our own and serve our customers even better!”

Tom, who is 24 and lives in Hartford, said: “We’re more than just a gym – we have a very strong gym community that is developed through fostering those personal relationships.

“If people are having to overcome musculoskeletal injuries to exercise – we’re there to adapt and help them.

“If people are struggling with their mental health – our awesome gym community often lift their spirits.

“If people struggle with getting gym confidence – we provide a bespoke 90-minute onboarding experience to ensure they have all the tools needed to start the gym.

“Equally, if someone who is very experienced in the gym, can’t quite hit their personal best – our S&C trainers are incredibly talented and can offer coaching points to assist them.

“The key to us is that we truly care about people, their goals and results.

“Whether you are a seasoned gym pro or a total beginner – there is a space for everyone at Namix.

“With us, members are not another number on the list.

“We know everyone’s name and make time to check in how your training is going, our team are invested in their health journey.”
