POLICE were called to a crash on a ‘dangerous’ bridge.

Croxton Lane in Middlewich was shut for several hours yesterday (September 3) following a crash.

Upon arriving at the scene at around 3.44pm, Cheshire Police officers found a grey Seat Ibiza and a white Toyota Rav4 had collided.

Fortunately, there were no injuries but the road did have to be closed for nearly three hours.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 3.44pm on Tuesday police were called to reports of a collision on Croxton Lane, Middlewich.

“Officers attended and found there had been a collision between a grey Seat Ibiza and a white Toyota Rav4.

“There were no reports of any injuries, but the road was closed while officers dealt with the incident.

“The road reopened at 6.30pm.”

This crash comes just weeks after an amended application was submitted to Cheshire East Council, seeking permission to build 66 homes.

Dozens of residents have raised objections, with many concerned about the increase of traffic.

Middlewich resident Alan Langley said: "There's been incidents here since my dad was in the fire brigade.

"The road speed needs reducing from Croxton Hall as traffic does not want to give way."

Another added: “I live off Croxton Lane and the traffic is terrible, the one-way bridge is already dangerous. More housing along this road is going to cause chaos.”

Another added: “The bridge over the River Dane is potentially one way at a time and more traffic will add to the dangerous nature here!”

A third said: “We do not support additional housing in this town without investment in infrastructure, the roads and traffic are terrible and Croxton Lane bridge is dangerous as it is.”
