FIREFIGHTERS tacked a fire in the heart of Delamere Forest.
One fire engine from Frodsham responded to the call to an area near Ashton Road, Hatchmere, at 4.59pm on Tuesday, September 3.
The crew put out the fire using a hose before turning the ground over, and checking for hotspots with a thermal camera.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A small fire was reported smouldering in Delamere Forest.
"Firefighters used a hose reel jet to dampen the area, and a spade to turn over the affected ground.
"Crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no hot spots before they left the incident.
“Every year, fire is responsible for the destruction of thousands of acres of countryside, open spaces and wildlife habitat with some fires lasting several days.
“Please take care when in the countryside and alert us to fires as early as possible via 999 calls.
“An early call could mean the difference between a small, easily controllable fire and a widespread, devastating fire.”
