A NEW music festival has been hailed a major success.

Pubs came together on Saturday (August 31) for the first-ever Middlewich Live in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.

Eight venues played host to live music, with hundreds of people flocking to the town to enjoy the festivities.

A spokesperson for the event said: “A massive thank you to everyone who came out and supported Middlewich Live in aid of St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice!

“Your enthusiasm and generosity made the first-ever Middlewich Live event truly special, and we’re so grateful to each and every one of you for making it a day to remember.

“Whether you attended, volunteered, or simply spread the word, your support means the world to us and to the incredible work being done by St Luke’s Hospice.

“We also want to extend an enormous thank you to our amazing sponsors and to all the local pubs.

“Your contributions were absolutely vital to making this event a success. Without your partnership, none of this would have been possible.”

One of the venues taking part in the festival was the Kings Arms on Queen Street, run by Daniel and Hannah White.

They said: “The first Middlewich Live was a huge success and a fantastic event, fun was definitely had by all!

“It was definitely busier than a standard Saturday night.

“I hope that this will now be an annual event in Middlewich.

“We managed to raise a total of £1,350! This would not have been achievable without all the amazing prizes donated from local business and customers and all the generosity of ticket purchases from the public.”

Middlewich Live was the brainchild of Kings Lock landlord Martin Moseley.

The former Wirral resident previously helped to launch West Kirby Live, which raised more than £20,000 in four years.

Janice Oxley, landlady of the Cheshire Cheese, is hoping the Middlewich event will go on to enjoy similar success.

She said: “Middlewich is a close community and all the landlords and landladies support each other.

“Well done to everyone involved and a big thank you to all bar staff that helped make it a success, can’t do it without them.

“Every pub that was involved pulled out all the stops to make it a success, it was very hard work but well worth it. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!”

Volunteers were out and about on Saturday collecting money for St Luke’s, with the grand total now being calculated,

Rachel Hughes, St Luke’s community fundraiser, said: “Middlewich Live was an amazingly organised event by Martin & Suzanne (Leeming) of the Kings Lock.

“The sun was shining as the community of Middlewich came together to support St Luke’s.

“The music was brilliant and the talent was endless.

“Thank you to all the pubs, volunteers and staff who supported the event throughout the day.”
