A NORTHWICH schoolboy has been raising money in memory of his cousin.
Eight-year-old River Tench completed a 100-mile cycle challenge for the Lenny Tench Foundation.
The charity was founded by his aunt and uncle, Shell and Josh Tench, as a way of honouring their son, who was stillborn in January 2023.
River’s mother, Ashley, said:” His aunty Shell and uncle Josh are a huge inspiration to him and he wanted to do something to help them raise vital funds for their charity and in memory of his baby cousin, Lenny.
“The whole family are incredibly proud of River.
“For his final challenge on Saturday, many of the family went out to support him on his route, cheering him on at different locations.”
Earlier this year, Charles Darwin Primary School pupil River climbed Snowdon for the Lenny Tench Foundation.
A member of North Cheshire Clarions, he has been cycling since he was five-years-old and decided he would put his hobby to good use.
He set out to cycle 100 miles throughout August alongside his uncle, culminating with a 25-mile cycle on Saturday (August 24).
“Although he is a confident cyclist, he has never ridden on a road until this month,” said Ashley, a 37-year-old schoolteacher.
“His final challenge was all on the road and he was a little nervous about it at first.
“He enjoyed the final ride and actually ended up completing more than 26 miles.”
The Lenny Tench Foundation supports NHS bereavement suites and services.
Earlier this year, the Meadow Suite opened at Leighton Hospital, with more than £10,000 provided by Josh and Shell's charity.

River is already planning his next fundraiser.
Ashley said: “He is keen to continue supporting the charity in the future.
“He has recently taken up competing in duathlons so perhaps might do a combined running and cycling event, but he hasn't made his mind up just!”
