CLOSURE looms for a Middlewich post office.

Cledford Post Office will shut down next month, the UK's largest retailer has confirmed.

The decision comes following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

Work is already underway to restore Post Office services in the area.

Karl Haddon, area change manager, said: “The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we are working hard to restore services in the area as soon as possible.

“We apologise for the inconvenience the closure may cause.

“We hope that our customers will continue to use Post Office services.”

Cledford Post Office, based at the pharmacy on Warmingham Lane, will no longer be available beyond Wednesday, September 25.

Anyone with questions about the closure is asked to write to the Post Office’s National Consultation Team.

Mid Cheshire MP Andrew Cooper is urging his constituents to make their voices heard, having already written in himself.

He said: “I and my constituents are surprised and very concerned about this.

“Middlewich has an ageing population, and it is also a growing town, with new housing being built such as the large development off Warmingham Lane."

He added: “The loss of the Post Office would also no doubt be felt at the pharmacy it is located in – which in turn could suffer as a result of the closure.

“The potential loss of this Post Office would be a huge blow to Middlewich so please make your voices heard.”
