A BARRISTER undergoing ‘gruelling’ chemotherapy is looking to pay back the hospital which has cared for him since he was diagnosed with cancer.

Northwich resident Sebastian Clegg was discovered he had bowel cancer in April 2022 and last summer was told the cancer had spread, is now stage four, and is inoperable.

Despite currently undergoing chemotherapy every two weeks at The Christie, 54-year-old Sebastian is going to take on the Altrincham 10k this Sunday (September 1).

The father of three said: “It is thanks to The Christie I am alive.

“Everyone at The Christie is amazing. They are so kind and keep me in the best of spirits.

“Such is the warmth and care, a little bit of me actually looks forward to my chemotherapy appointments.”

Sebastian has had radiotherapy, surgery and now chemotherapy at The Christie.

He will run the Altrincham 10k, alongside his 19-year-old daughter Olivia, to raise money for the hospital.

As well as Olivia, Sebastian has two other children, Georgina, 23, and Edward, 22, with his wife Abigail.

Alicia Gaffey, mass participation events co-ordinator at The Christie Charity, said: “Taking on a 10k run is a challenge for anyone, but to do it while undergoing chemotherapy really is impressive.

“It takes a lot of courage and strength to cope with a cancer diagnosis, but to then focus your energies on training and fundraising while undergoing gruelling treatment is truly inspirational.

“We are very grateful to Sebastian and Olivia for their commitment and support.”
