A REGGAE musician battling cancer has set out on a mission to return home.

Winsford resident Golty Farabeau, 62, has been diagnosed with terminal progressive kidney cancer.

He is now looking to raise money for a medically assisted flight to his birth country, Seychelles, to see out the rest of his days.

“Despite the many challenges I’ve faced throughout my life, nothing could prepare me for this battle,” he said.

“As the disease progresses, my strength is fading, and I realise that my time is running short.

“More than anything, I want the place in which I recover to be where I’ve always called home— the Seychelles.

“Being surrounded by the love of my family and the familiar sounds of the ocean would mean the world to me.

“However, the costs associated with such a journey, along with the medical expenses and the need for specialized care, are beyond what I can manage alone.”

Golty has performed in venues all across the UK, moving to Winsford around 20 years ago.

The fundraiser has been set up by Golty’s friend, Linda Smith.

She set out to raise £6,000 and has already far exceeded this, with £7,594 donated as of midday on Friday (August 23).

This money will be used to cover travel expenses, medical care and to ensure Golty and his loved ones can enjoy their remaining time together.

Sharing a message to those who have donated so far, Linda said: “Though the road to recovery is long, your support has made a tremendous difference in his ability to receive the care he needs.

“Every donation, message of encouragement, and share of this campaign has brought us closer to the goal.

“We are eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity, and we remain hopeful as we navigate the next steps.”

She added: “He's a Seychelles national hero. His country are trying everything they can to get him home. He's the king of the Indian Ocean!”

The Delamere Street Dog in Winsford also hosted a fundraiser on Friday night (August 23).

Live music was provided by Gas Kunst, Qualms, Cav Green, Blind Bear and Mike Williams.

Entry cost £5, with all of the proceeds going towards Golty.
