A FALLEN tree has got the bank holiday weekend off to a slow start.
Motorists travelling along the M6 in Cheshire face ‘severe’ delays this morning, with signs on the motorway warning drivers of 45 minute waits.
It comes after a tree fell across the northbound carriageway between J19 and J20, resulting in two lanes initially being closed.
According to National Highways North West, this led to around three miles of congestion.
National Highways have since confirmed that one lane has since reopened, with contractors still working to clear the debris.
The AA website states: “Severe delays of 36 minutes and delays increasing on M6 Northbound between J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) and J20 M56 J9 (Lymm Interchange). Average speed ten mph.”
The #M6 northbound between J19 (#Tabley) and J20 (#M56), lanes 1 and 2 (of 3) are closed due to a fallen tree across the carriageway.

Ahead of the bank holiday weekend, National Highways confirmed it would be lifting more than 500 miles of roadworks to ease journeys.
The roadworks were removed by 6am today and will be put back into place from 00.01am on Tuesday (August 27).
Here in Cheshire, National Highways issued an alert for the M56 and M6 with around 80,000 dance music fans expected to flock to the Creamfields festival in Daresbury.
