The Cosy Tea Room in Winsford is the latest winner in our Best of 2024 awards – Mid Cheshire’s Best for Afternoon Tea.

Ten top afternoon teas in Mid Cheshire made the shortlist for the latest Best of 2024 award and The Cosy Tea Room has taken this year’s coveted crown.
The award-winning business at The Gate Inn on Delamere Street in Winsford opened in September 2017 and Martina Horrill is the chef and one of the managers.
The Cosy Tea Room is open Monday to Saturday offering lunches and specialising in catering for afternoon teas, with all items homemade or baked by chefs including the cakes.
They also offer a pick-up service for parties.

Martina said: “What sets us apart from other businesses is we all really care about all the details.
“We change our afternoon tea flavours every week, which keeps things interesting, and home bake or make everything including our lovely cakes.
“Our children’s afternoon teas are fun and very popular we also offer Easter, Halloween and Christmas themed afternoon teas throughout the year.
“We serve our afternoon teas on vintage tea stands and our hot drinks in antique teapots with cups and saucers.
“We are lucky enough to be based in The Gate Inn where a thriving community meets and supports everything we do, and that ensures a warm welcome on both sides of the bar.”

One nomination said: “The food and presentation is second to none and I would highly recommend it.
“I have been there for Mother’s Day, birthday treats and will be going to a baby shower there in a couple of weeks – I can’t wait.

Martina said: “It’s often said that the friendly, attentive service and welcome on both sides of the bar makes customers come back and we think consistent quality and attention to detail is the big thing.
“I’ve always enjoyed baking cakes and being creative so when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance to put my own creative spin on things.
“The best thing about my job is being part of a team that really cares about making things perfect and creating great experiences.
“We all get a say in how things are run.”

Marina and the team were “so excited” to find out that The Cosy Tea Room had made this year’s afternoon tea shortlist and “ecstatic” to hear they’d won.
She said: “Let’s just say we’re ecstatic - absolutely over the moon to have won.
