FAMILIES are set to be treated to a display of award-winning outdoor cookery skills as one of Britain's best barbecuists comes to Cheshire.

Britain's BBQ Master Ben Bartlett will be joining the Cheshire Game & Country Fair, taking place at the Tabley Showground on the August bank holiday weekend.

Ben will be showing off his talent around a barbecue with classes running from 11am to 1pm daily, where he'll prepare dishes such as barbecue bacon sushi rolls and Cedar wood mackerel, as well as a barbecue strawberry cocktail.

From 3pm, he will also be teaming up with Andrea Wallace, who gained her wide range of cookery knowledge from Leith's School of Food and Wine, for a joint demonstration.

Ben, who won Britain’s Best Barbecue Contest in 2003, said: "I am on a mission to bring the joy of outdoor cooking to the nation and working with children and adults to explore the wonderful possibilities of traditional British food."

The seasoned chef knew from a young age he wanted to be a cook, after learning about ‘meat, fish and game’ from his mum, who he calls a ‘phenomenal cook’.

Ben has also penned a number of cookbooks, including the recently-released BBQ Cocktails & Desserts.

Cheshire Game & Country Fair is a family event with plenty to get involved in, including falconry, axe throwing, shooting, a craft village and the world of dogs.

Tickets for the event are £5.41 for children, £15.98 for over 65s, or £17.13 for adults. The activities will run across Sunday, August 25, and Monday, August 26.

The Living Heritage Events group, hosting the fair, said: “The country kitchen hosting a number of cookery demonstrations throughout the day is the perfect place to relax and unwind.”
