MORE pupils than ever achieved top grades at a Northwich school.

It has proven to be The Grange’s most successful ever A-level cohort, with a quarter of all entries being marked A*.

Almost half of the year group achieved at least one A*, with 90 per cent of pupils securing entry to their first choice university.

Head teacher Dr Lorraine Earps said: "This is the most A*s we have ever had.

“This has been such a great year group. They have thrown themselves into every aspect of life at the school and they support each other in all that they do.

"It is nice that they get the outcomes they have worked so hard for. Wherever they want to go, whatever they want to do, we will do all we can to support them to achieve those aims.

"It is just nice that their hard work has paid off and they have got what they deserve.

These pupils have such a great relationship with their teachers.

"It is a very emotional day. A lot of these students have been here right through since the junior school."

Theo’s mum, Helen, said: “I could tell then, that was the day he decided he wanted to go to Cambridge.

Theo will study history after securing A*s in maths, politics and history and his EPQ (Extended Project Qualification).

“They will have an empty house come October!”

Zoe also achieved straight A*s, in English literature, history and French and will be studying history at Oxford.

He achieved an A* in maths along with As in further maths, physics and computing.

He said: "I've been at The Grange for 14 years so it is quite an emotional day."

Meanwhile, Sam Thorne, one of the heads of school, is looking forward to studying aerospace engineering at Sheffield.

“It’s that childhood obsession that never really went away and it keeps my ambitions of becoming an astronaut alive,” he said.

"Before (results) it was just a case of fingers crossed but now I know I’m going to university I’m very excited. It’s a leap into the unknown."
